One of the reasons I think the “Boomer Luxury Communism” backlash against social security and Medicare is so not-especially-constructive is that, relative to the extremely limited effects of job training, simply paying people to retire earlier I think mechanically works at much higher efficiency with fewer externalities - but IFF Social Security/Medicare retain significantly high levels of popularity.

Kind of hilarious that "pay people to take care of their family" is +44 but "universal child allowance" is -32 🤷
